(More customer reviews)I like the 2lbs size and the price of this welding wire. I've used Lincoln since I started welding several years ago. Took it out yesterday for its first test... Needed to build a new gate for our horses. I used rusty old well pipe that I had laying around. Cleaned it up a bit with a wire brush (my grinder just died) and had at it. There was less spatter with this wire than others, it penetrated well, and it laid very smooth. The only issue I had was occasional binding in the hose. Not sure why. I have never had that happen with Lincoln wire. The gate was finished, hung, and tested. Worked great, welds are strong and look pretty decent for flux on old pipe.

Century 80 Gasless Wire Feed Welder Review

(More customer reviews)This was my first welder, I bought it in '96. I've welded dozens of little projects with it in 10 years.
Pros: Easy to use, plugs in 110-120v anywhere, wire is easy to find.
Cons: Lots of slag spatter, can't use for extended periods or it'll trip it's breaker for an hour, only has the capacity for a 1 or 2 pound spool of wire - so you can't buy in bulk and save, too small for a large project, no MIG converstion kit that I've found (yet).
I'm ready to graduate to a stick or mig welder.

Hobart 500414 115-Volt, 135 Amp Handler 135 Welder Review

(More customer reviews)This welder is a good choice for the hobbiest/homeowner. I have used this to weld up to 1/4" mild steel and have very good success with it. The unit takes 115V so power is easy. The welder comes with the gauges and fittings required (minus bottle) for mig welding making for a very complete kit. I weld only steel and have not used the shielding gas components. The duty cycle prevents continous welding in all but the first setting, but with the time it takes for set up, moving around and such, I have only run into the duty cycle limit once and that was on the highest setting. Forced air cooling reduces the wait time. I have used stick and wire welders. I much favor the wire feed because the welding is much more consistant. People with easy access to 220 volt power may wish to go that way, but this is a very capable 115V unit. Things I like: Long gun cord, 115V, easy to use, uses standard, easily found consumables (wire, tips, etc.), comes complete with gas components (minus bottle), well built, easy wire loading. Improvements: still looking. Duty cycle will hamper production applications (true for all 115V machines) but the homeowner/farmer will be satisified.

Factory-Reconditioned Campbell Hausfeld RBWS090001 115-Volt Stick Welder Review

(More customer reviews)I've been wanting to get a welder of my own ever since I took a course in college a few years back. Finding this welder for so cheap gave me the perfect excuse to finally get one. It's a great welder for beginners (which I pretty much am after all these years). You only have 2 settings (High and Low), and since it uses sticks you don't need to worry about gas or wire feeding. It also plugs into any 20 amp outlet, which is nice. It will still take a while to get used to keeping an arc going, so make sure you have some scrap metal around to practice on before you try to repair anything important.
They included everything you need to get started except for the gloves. Any leather gloves should do, but thicker is better. The facemask is ok, but you have to hold it up to your face. You'll want to order goggles or a mask that you wear so you can use your hand to hold whatever you're welding together. Make sure they are dark enough, the replacement I got is #5, which is at least a couple shades to light to be really comfortable.
I was a little worried that it would be underpowered, but so far it has melted through anything I've tried if I let it. I don't have anything at the moment to test the upper limit of an 1/8th inch, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was a conservative limit. I've read reviews of similar products and was also concerned that a common complaint is that nobody can strike an arc on low power. I'm happy to say that that is all I'm using so far, and it really isn't difficult at all. If you are having trouble, try rubbing away any excess coating on the stick so you can see the metal in the middle. It fixes it every time for me.
For $67 this welder can't be beat!
