(More customer reviews)I like the 2lbs size and the price of this welding wire. I've used Lincoln since I started welding several years ago. Took it out yesterday for its first test... Needed to build a new gate for our horses. I used rusty old well pipe that I had laying around. Cleaned it up a bit with a wire brush (my grinder just died) and had at it. There was less spatter with this wire than others, it penetrated well, and it laid very smooth. The only issue I had was occasional binding in the hose. Not sure why. I have never had that happen with Lincoln wire. The gate was finished, hung, and tested. Worked great, welds are strong and look pretty decent for flux on old pipe.

(More customer reviews)the rods performed alright, and I did read the description & knew I would only get 5 sticks. It is disingenuous though to picture 5# & 10# packs. It would be very easy to see the 5 pounder read quantity 5 and think you were getting 5#.
this pack comes out to about $30/# or more than three times the current cost (less than $9/#) for E308L-16 rod from other sources. unless you really do need less than 5 pieces I recommend buying a tube of red baron E308L-16 from Lincoln.

The real knock I have with this product is that the company, when it was open for business, was pretty hard to get parts from. Unlike the other brands, Clarke does everything a little bit different, so you can't get replacement parts, or find local shops for repairs. Now that they're out of business, the next thing that breaks will sending me shopping for another unit.

Hobart 500414 115-Volt, 135 Amp Handler 135 Welder Review

(More customer reviews)This welder is a good choice for the hobbiest/homeowner. I have used this to weld up to 1/4" mild steel and have very good success with it. The unit takes 115V so power is easy. The welder comes with the gauges and fittings required (minus bottle) for mig welding making for a very complete kit. I weld only steel and have not used the shielding gas components. The duty cycle prevents continous welding in all but the first setting, but with the time it takes for set up, moving around and such, I have only run into the duty cycle limit once and that was on the highest setting. Forced air cooling reduces the wait time. I have used stick and wire welders. I much favor the wire feed because the welding is much more consistant. People with easy access to 220 volt power may wish to go that way, but this is a very capable 115V unit. Things I like: Long gun cord, 115V, easy to use, uses standard, easily found consumables (wire, tips, etc.), comes complete with gas components (minus bottle), well built, easy wire loading. Improvements: still looking. Duty cycle will hamper production applications (true for all 115V machines) but the homeowner/farmer will be satisified.

US Forge Welding Aluminum Specialty Electrode 1/8-Inch by 14-Inch 3-Pack #07331 Review

(More customer reviews)The title says you are getting 3 Pack and the picture shows three packages angled across the bottom of the picture. I received one (1) pack which only contained three rods. The advertised Hobart item (Hobart H722844-RDP 1/8-Inch 4043 Aluminum Electrodes) is a much better deal as you will receive ten (10) rods for $10.18 or about $1 per rod. The US Forge rods were over $2/rod. Amazon is allowing false advertising by saying 3-pack are being provided. The ad should say 3 RODS!
UPDATE: After complaining about the false advertising, Amazon did refund me 2/3 of the price since they only sent 1-pack and the listing stated 3-pack and the picture showed 3-packs. Amazon has since changed the photo to show a single package. Amazon still needs to be clear as to what is being sold; 3-packages and each with 3 rods (total 9 rods) or a single package with 3 rods (TOTAL 3 RODS). If it is the latter, then the title of the item should be changed to read 3-ROD PACK. Nowhere in the description does Amazon state how many rods are included.

No running around buying the 10 pound spool adapter and the regulator for gas etc. This little guy does all I need it to and more. It has a lot of power and overloaded my 15 amp circuit. I reccomend a 20 amp circuit with a good extension cord for heavier metals. My extension cord was whimpy which did not help. Mind you I only tripped the breaker once and have welded a lot with this welder.
The costumer service is very nice as well. I have a broken insulator. They sent me out two new ones without a hitch.

(More customer reviews)I've been wanting to get a welder of my own ever since I took a course in college a few years back. Finding this welder for so cheap gave me the perfect excuse to finally get one. It's a great welder for beginners (which I pretty much am after all these years). You only have 2 settings (High and Low), and since it uses sticks you don't need to worry about gas or wire feeding. It also plugs into any 20 amp outlet, which is nice. It will still take a while to get used to keeping an arc going, so make sure you have some scrap metal around to practice on before you try to repair anything important.
They included everything you need to get started except for the gloves. Any leather gloves should do, but thicker is better. The facemask is ok, but you have to hold it up to your face. You'll want to order goggles or a mask that you wear so you can use your hand to hold whatever you're welding together. Make sure they are dark enough, the replacement I got is #5, which is at least a couple shades to light to be really comfortable.
I was a little worried that it would be underpowered, but so far it has melted through anything I've tried if I let it. I don't have anything at the moment to test the upper limit of an 1/8th inch, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was a conservative limit. I've read reviews of similar products and was also concerned that a common complaint is that nobody can strike an arc on low power. I'm happy to say that that is all I'm using so far, and it really isn't difficult at all. If you are having trouble, try rubbing away any excess coating on the stick so you can see the metal in the middle. It fixes it every time for me.
For $67 this welder can't be beat!

Millermatic 140 907335 Mig Welder 110V Autoset New Review

(More customer reviews)After years of having to drag any of my welding needs to work, I finally plunked down and bought this unit 2 yrs ago. I'm a fan of Miller products from way back, having cut my welding teeth on a Syncrowave 250 multiprocess machine, and using all Miller products at work from light gauge galv. steel MIG welding (Shopmaster 300 from the 80's, 2 yr old ShopMate 300DX), to running straight SMAW stick welding with a couple of DialArc 250s that range to the late 60's, early 70's. And in my shop environment these things get beat to hell, and little if any repair work has been needed. Miller machines seem to last forever.
That said, this little 120 volt MIG welder has some serious guts to it. It's more than light enough to travel with, and being 120V it can be used almost anywhere. I regularly run it on a 15amp circuit with no problems.
The 20% duty cycle is overly cautious - this machine doesn't quit. Doesn't cut off, either, just keeps going. Welded the doors shut on a demo derby vehicle - nonstop welds. It's insane.
The M-10 gun is smaller but is perfect with this machine. I would probably replace the ground clamp with something a little heavier duty, but thus far it's been fine for my usage. The wire feed motor is a bit on the louder side, but has no problem pushing 0.030" wire at full speed off of a ten lb spool. Spool changes are quick, which is a good thing, I seem to alternate back and forth between 0.023" and 0.030 all the time.
I haven't really had an opportunity to run the Auto-Set as much as I'd like to comment on it. It seems to work well, but I rarely use this machine to weld equal thickness steels. Example - welding 3/16 wall tubing to auto body sheetmetal to replace rocker panels on an off road Jeep.
If you need to do any kind of welding at home, this machine is excellent. And you can get replacement parts (tips, nozzles) at just about any weld supply shop.

I happen to have a 30 amp 110V RV plug for my trailer on the side of garage to connect to. I read the other articles about popping 20 amp breakers but I happen to luck out on this benefit. Welder comes equipped with a standard 3 prong plug for 110V household so I got a RV 30 amp male to 15 amp female adapter and all is good. Adapter is available at Walmart for $5-6 and nothing gets hot after running four 1/8 practice rods....I haven't welding in 20 years and it shows! Bottom line it works great!
